Ranking Search

Ranking Search

This article explains what a lot of SEO Consultants have found through trial and error do Google and Bing use the two most important ranking factors, less so for Yahoo and others. The findings are as a result of many ongoing optimization experiments of a large network of websites that are under the scrutiny of SEO Consultants that are responsible for their search engine rankings.

The top two Google ranking factors are:

1. Page Rank
2. Incoming Text Link Keywords

I'll explain each in more detail and what you must do to maximize the effectiveness of each element.

1. Page Rank

The number and quality of links to a page determine Page Rank. Both the quantity and quality of text links are important. Always try to get links from web pages with a Page Rank rating of at least four or five. Concentrate on getting as many different quality sites as possible to link to one page on your site, usually your home page. Do not spread the links to different pages. This will maximize the Page Rank of your main page, plus those of the subpages. Focus your efforts on the one page. More complex Search Engine Optimizations for specific pages or deep linking will be covered in later articles on the subject.

2. Incoming Text Link Keywords

Always provide text links for linking to your site. Avoid image links. This tip is covered in a number of articles and SEO information blogs through out the SEO community. Google and other search engines do index image links, but without any text for it to index, it won't help your link popularity rating for your important keywords. Hence image links are a waste of time.

In addition:

a. Include the most important keyword phrase in the text link, using the exact spelling. And always try to use 'long tail keywords'

b. Do not pluralize the keyword phrase, if people usually search the singular version of the phrase. And vice versa. Use the keyword search and popularity tools online to determine the most popular plurality of the keyword phrase.

c. Avoid excess words, where possible. Again, repeating your self, again repeating yourself into redundancy repeating your self just doesn't fly with the search engines.

d. The linked to page will always have to have the text link keywords in the body of the page; otherwise Google will discount the page. Further, I like to put the keywords in the title Meta tag, description Meta tag and keyword Meta tag. By default the body text of pertinent pages will always have the keywords of the title, description and keyword metatags. Otherwise they would not be 'optimized' would they?

e. Include the text link keywords within the title tag of the linked to page. Again, as per step d. It is possible for a page without the text link keywords in the title tag to get top rankings. But we have discovered over here that around 80% of top 10 rankings have the text link keywords in the title tag, and further it is possible to get knocked out of rank by those sites that have this additional step so always include your keywords in the title.

Over and above that, please be sure to optimize every piece of code, blog/word press option, meta tag, on page text, <H#> tags and just about anything else with the page you want to optimize. I have covered, and will cover, more on these optimizations in other articles as well. Very important. And remember, follow these tips whenever you optimize your web pages and they will work their way up the Google and other search engine rankings.
